Shop online

Shopping online can save you money on all kinds of items, clothes, trainers, books and electrical items.

You will need to use a payment card (Credit, debit or pre-paid) to shop online, it's important that you use a site that ensures your card details are kept safe. This means that the website uses technology that protects your bank details from online fraudsters and hackers.

A small padlock icon in the bottom of your browser window and a website address beginning with 'https' are signs that the website is a safe and secure one.

Money off vouchers

Magazines often print money-off vouchers that give you a discount on things like toiletries, music and DVDs. You can also pick up 'buy one get one free' vouchers that you can use to get more stuff – this is great if you have a friend that wants the same produce and you can split the cost.

Going out and spending your money just for the sake of using the voucher isn't a good idea, but if you were planning on a shopping trip, make the most of any vouchers that you can pick up.

Don’t throw away items that are still useable – this is not just good for the planet – it is also good for your finances!

Use ebay and advertise in your local paper or shop. You could also run a stall at a boot fair with your friends selling CD’s, books, electrical equipment, clothes, etc...

Looking good for less

Having a good haircut doesn’t have to cost a fortune – many salons have trainee nights for people who are willing to let a student cut their hair for a reduced price. This is not as risky as it sounds as the trained stylists are supervising the haircut – so you get a great hair cut for a fraction of the usual price.
